This is the most beautiful, realistic, heart wrenching portrait I’ve ever seen of Our Lady of Sorrows. Is there any info available about the artist? Thank you!
Yes, you are right, it is an extremely moving image. If you scroll down to the end of the article you will see my comments entitled “Notes on the painting” in which each one of the paintings is briefly described. You can “click” on the first note, which is on the painting you are referring to, and it will redirect you to the Wikipedia article on the author of that painting. Unfortunately, his/her name is anonymous, as some painters did not want to be known by the public, or they were members of the Catholic clergy or members of a religious Order and desired to remain anonymous out of humility. The author is known by the altarpiece that this image is part of and continues to be known as the Master of Alsace. Thank you for visiting the site and becoming a subscriber.
